English Day Batch 2018

Atma Jaya School of Tourism holds an online discussion event for its students with the help of Semi.Semu as the organizer. This program is created as the platform for the students to practice their English skills by discussing topics that are related to the tourism industry. This program is a mandatory event for all of the active students of Atma Jaya School of Tourism to participate. Each batch has a different schedule for the program and the first program was held on Friday, May 7th, 2021 for the class of 2018. It started from 1.00 PM to 3.00 PM and due to Covid-19, the event was held online through the Microsoft Teams application. The discussion session was guided by Atma Jaya School of Tourism’s lecturers, Mr. Yerik Afrianto Singgalen and Miss Zsarin Astria. As for the topics of the discussion, several days before the D-Day, the students were asked to choose two topics that they were interested in. The two topics that were mostly chosen by the students were:

  1. COVID-19: The Importance of Sustainable Ecology.
  2. Tourism and Movies and Tourism: How Movies Boost Tourism.

The program was opened by Brandon Adityo Papu as the master of ceremony and Mrs. Astuti Kusumawicitra was also there to give an opening remark to officially start the program. After that, all of the students were divided into two meeting rooms and each room was guided by the moderators to discuss two different topics. The given time for the discussion session was 90 minutes. During the discussion session, the moderators were using two different approaches methods. As for Meeting Room #1, Mr. Yerik as their moderator started by presenting about ecotourism framework which includes socio-cultural, environmental, economic, and politics. After that, Mr. Yerik asked the students with questions that were related to the presentation. While Miss Zsarin from Meeting Room #2 started with throwing an open question to the students about what movies or TV show that they were watching at the moment. Many shared his or her favorites movies, most of them said a couple of different titles of Korean Dramas and some said Western TV shows. After the intermezzo, Miss Zsarin guided them to play a game that was still related to the topic. The students were also asked to say their opinions regarding how movies boost tourism and vice versa.

After the discussion has ended, all of the students were assigned back to the main meeting room to share their experiences during the discussion session. At the end of the program, the students were asked to fill out the evaluation forms for the moderators and the organizer.
